My family is from stem to stern, from generations hitherto and hence, musical. My grandfather, Ki Nartosabdo, was the most famous Dalang of his generation, and my father Ki Sri Djoko Raharjo was the best Dalang of his. And my mother, among that esteemed crowd is the most musically talented of the lot. And unlike my brothers and sisters, many of whom are busy and successful musicians in the world of Indonesian music, I immigrated to America and immersed myself in the traditional music of the West.
It is from this love of music where my passion for violinmaking stems. I have dedicated my entire adult life, and working life, to the creation of violins and the wonderful sounds which they, in turn, produce. |
Pauline is a polymath of the highest order. She has found success in innumerable endeavors. She is a research scientist, she is a wonderful maker, and most importantly to me, she plays the piano.
