The Shop Standard
Our Standard
The Chase Violins "Shop Standard" is an uncompromising instrument. It is our statement piece. This is what a violin should be. ENGINEERED FOR PERFORMANCE The Shop Standard is built to ensure that while you perform, your instrument will be a source of confidence. It is made to respond to your input and produce a tone which is pleasing to the audience and to the performer. MADE FOR THE PRACTICE ROOM Our instruments have our proprietary L-HAD construction technology. From the form on which the ribs are made to the bridge which is carved bespoke for each violin, each step of the making process considers that the violin is primarily an instrument for the player. The person who hears this violin most, by far, is you. And you are first in our minds when we make these instruments. |
Sensory Habituation
Sensory habituation is the undiscussed bane of the violin player. It is well known to science that sensory habituation kills dopamine and desensitizes us to the environment. Just as we stop smelling a scent after we've been in a room for a few minutes, we stop hearing the subtleties of our violin when we play for hours on end. If we eat at the same restaurant daily, even if it is awarded a Michelin Star, the food will eventually taste bland.

Low Habituation Acoustic Design
Our violins are made with our proprietary L-HAD architecture with the aim to keep the hours of practice healthy and joyful. We have identified specific frequency ranges that accelerate ear fatigue, and we attenuate them. Conversely, we augment the frequencies that keep the ear engaged during long, rigorous hours of practice.

Uncompromising Artistry
We take great pride in the beauty and craftsmanship of our instruments. Our working methods are deeply rooted in the tradition of 18th century Italian lutherie. Our plates and scrolls are hand carved by gouge and plane; our ribs are bent around a hot iron; and our instruments are adorned with the finest oil and pitch varnishes.

Iterative Improvements
As we are musicians ourselves, we are well aware of the rewards of conscientious repetition. Our workshop's production volume allows us to experiment, enhance, and triangulate the optimal methods and forms to make an instrument. Our output is small enough that each instrument gets the ideal amount of attention to detail, and substantial enough to drive real, empirically based evolution.
